KEY STAGES IN THE CHÂLUCET RESTORATION WORKS
The Département de la Haute-Vienne owns the ruins at Châlucet and over 20 years ago the départemement launched an extensive programme to protect and restore the ruins and transform them into a quality cultural and tourist site.

Acquisition by the Conseil général
In 1996 the Conseil general de la Haute-Vienne decided to purchase the ruins at Châlucet, a medieval fortress that had been classified as a historic monument in the 19th century.

From 1997 to 1999
The start of restoration works
✔ Upper Châlucet: restoration of the curtain walls, the outer defences and the Porte du Capitaine gate. At the same time, an extensive archaeological project was undertaken.
✔ Lower Châlucet : restoration of the curtain walls.

Restoration of the Jeannette tower and the Chapelle des lices
✔ Restoration of the Jeannette tower: : addition of a platform at the top of the tower to provide a 360° view of the site.
✔ Restoration of the Chapelle des lices at Upper Châlucet.

Renovation works
The Conseil départemental de la Haute-Vienne has carried out extensive works to consolidate and strengthen the internal walls of the Upper Châlucet castle. This new phase in restoration works aimed to further rehabilitate this remarkable historical site whilst ensuring the safety of the visiting public and introducing a visitor trail.
The key stages were: deliveries of equipment and materials by helicopter, erecting the scaffolding, removal of plant growth on the walls, topographic and photogrammetric wall elevation surveys, detailed building study of walls M3, M15, M20, surveys and stratigraphic recording of the elevations by the archaeological team, crystallization of the walls (pointing, repointing, rubble stone replacement ...), dismounting scaffolding and removal of equipment by helicopter.

C’est en 1996, que le "Conseil général" de la Haute-Vienne décide d’acquérir les ruines de Châlucet, forteresse médiévale classée monument historique depuis le XIXème siècle.

Travaux de valorisation
Le Conseil départemental de la Haute-Vienne a réalisé d’importants travaux de consolidation des murs intérieurs du château haut de Châlucet. Cette nouvelle phase de travaux avait pour objectif de poursuivre la mise en valeur et la restauration de ce site historique remarquable tout en permettant la mise en sécurité du public et l’aménagement du circuit de visite.
Les grandes étapes ont été : héliportages des matériels et matériaux, montage des échafaudages, opération de dévégétalisation sur les murs, relevés topographiques et photogrammétriques d'élévation des murs, étude de bâti détaillée des murs M3, M15, M20, relevés et enregistrement stratigraphique des élévations par l’équipe d'archéologues, cristallisation des murs (jointoiements, rejointoiements, repose de moellons, …), dépose des échafaudages et héliportages.
